Dorm rebuilding delayed again!
The Ministry of Education has developed a new work plan for the rebuilding of the President’s College dormitory which was destroyed by a fire, suspected to be of electrical origin in April 2004.
Permanent Secretary Pulandar Kandhi told reporters yesterday that there have been many slippages in the execution of the project at the college as result of failure on the part of the contractor.
He said the contractor was called in and a new work plan was developed.
“The dorm should have been completed by now but due to inability on the part of the contractor work is still ongoing,” he said.
He said the contractor encountered problems in the area of staffing as well and had trouble recruiting persons to work in the Golden Grove area. However the project should wrap up in the next three months.
The fire at President’s College initially displaced hundreds of students. It was the male dormitory to the south of the school which went up in flames on April 26, 2004. The students were subsequently relocated at the Women’s Institute at Cove and John.
